For many body functions such as brain health, heart health and inflammation reduction etc, omega 3 fatty acids are essential. Information is that 3 main types of omega 3 fatty acids are ALA or alpha linolenic acid, EPA or eicosapentaenoic acid, DHA or docosahexaenoic acid.
 
It is worthy to note that ALA is present in plant sources such as chia seeds, flaxseeds and vegetables like spinach and Brussel sprouts etc while EPA and DHA are present in fishes and algae etc. There are many non-veg foods that are rich in omega 3 fatty acids like mackerel, salmon, herring, oysters, sardines etc.
 
Various signs that would reveal that you need omega 3 fatty acids are
 
Dry skin:
For the sake of skin elasticity and hydration, omega 3 fatty acids are very essential. It must be taken into account that deficiency of omega 3 fatty acids would result in dry flaky skin as the fats would keep the skin lipid barrier intact.
 
Fatigue:
Feeling fatigued with no energy is a common sign when the omega 3 fatty acid levels are low or poor. It is known that these fatty acids play a huge role in energy production and a lack of omega 3 fatty acids would result in tiredness etc.
 
Poor memory and cognitive health:
Not having enough omega 3 fatty acids could lead to poor memory, concentration and cognitive decline etc.
 
Mood swings and depression etc:
Our mental health would be supported by omega 3 fatty acids. Point is that deficiency of omega 3 fatty acids would lead to mood disorders, anxiety and depression etc. This could be due to increased inflammation and due to imbalanced brain chemicals.
 
Joint pain and stiffness:
Joint pain and stiffness etc would get lowered due to anti-inflammatory effects of omega 3 fatty acids. Conditions like arthritis etc would get exacerbated when omega 3 fatty acid levels are low in us.

Our retina has DHA or a type of omega 3 fatty acid. Therefore, deficiency of omega 3 fatty acids would be shown by dry eyes, poor vision and increased risk of macular degeneration etc.
 
Hair issues:
We would have dry brittle hairs when there is deficiency of omega 3 fatty acids in us. This would lead to more hair fall in us due to reduced supply of nutrients to the scalp.
