On one side, people enjoy the winter season for its coolness, no sweating, absence of tired etc, on the other side cool weather could pose issues too!!

These days, there is one health issue many people have and it is diabetes or high blood sugar levels. It must be noted that our body`s ability to produce insulin would get affected during the winter season. Various symptoms associated with diabetes are fatigue, frequent urination, eye issues, weight loss etc. It is highly necessary to treat diabetes or else it can result in health complications in us.

There are certain foods that diabetics can eat in the winters to manage or control their blood sugar levels.

These foods are

Oranges intake:

The oranges are rich in fibres plus vitamin C and potassium etc. They have low glycemic index and hence could be eaten by the diabetic patients. There would not be a rapid increase in the blood sugar levels when we eat this fruit. The vitamin C in the oranges would lower the blood sugar levels. Moreover, vitamin C helps in the recovery of the damaged cells.

Sweet potatoes intake:

When compared to the white potatoes sweet potatoes have low glycemic index. Therefore, it is good to eat sweet potatoes in winters as it would not cause rapid spike in the blood sugar levels.

Carrots intake:

Those who are diabetic can eat carrots in the winter season. Truth is that carrots have low glycemic index and they can be eaten by the diabetic persons in the cool winter season.

Cinnamon intake:

Another food that can be consumed by those who are diabetic in the winter season is cinnamon. It has got anti inflammatory properties in them. It is true that regular intake of cinnamon by diabetics in the winters would reduce the blood sugar levels in them.

Cruciferous vegetables intake :

In the cold season, persons having diabetes can consume vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli containing fibres and vitamin C etc. Point is that fibres would lower the blood sugar levels. Eating broccoli in the winters would lower the blood sugar levels in the diabetics.

Apples intake:

Apples have high fibre content and low glycemic index and these would prevent spike in the blood sugar levels in diabetic persons during the winter seasons.
