Bakrid, a Muslim festival known as `Eid al-Adha` in Arabic and `Eegai Thirunaal` in Tamil, is one of the most important festivals celebrated by Muslims. It is celebrated as a remembrance of the sacrifices of Prophet Ibrahim.

In this regard, a notification released by the Government Chief Khaji Salauddin Mohammad Ayub states:

“The new crescent for the month of Dukhaj was observed in several parts of the state of Tamil Nadu on the 19th of June (Monday, the day before yesterday). Subsequently, Bakrid will be celebrated on Thursday, 29th June!”
