India has about 77million people who are more than 18 years old suffering from diabetes!! Shocking but true!!
 
It is true that diabetes is a growing health concern in India and it needs to be controlled well. In some persons, their blood sugar levels would be too high. They are known as diabetics. There are chances to get diabetes if we are overweight, if we do not exercise regularly, genetics etc. Information gathered is that fasting blood sugar levels below 100 mg/dl is considered a s normal.
 
Consuming certain foods and drinks would cause a spike in the blood sugar levels. Hence, it is necessary to avoid these foods compulsorily.
 
Avoid sweets:
Those who are diabetic must not consume sweets as it could cause a spike in their blood sugar levels. It is mentioned that high intake of sugary foods would be a huge risk for diabetic persons. So, please be careful.
 
Avoid drinks, fruit juices etc:
It must be noted that drinks like lassi, sodas and sweet juices would cause a spike in the levels of blood sugars. Moreover, these drinks and juices etc would provide little nutritional value. It is good for those with diabetics to drink unsweetened herbal teas or fresh fruit infusions etc.
 
Avoid white rice and refined grains etc:
It must be noted that white rice has a high glycemic index or GI and when consumed it gets digested quickly. This would lead to a spike in the blood sugar levels. It has been mentioned in the journal that intake of white rice is associated with type 2 diabetes risk. It is good to switch to brown rice etc for managing blood sugar levels.
 
Avoid deep fried snacks:
It is worthy to mention here that deep fried snacks like samosas, French fries etc are rich in unsaturated fats and refined carbs. By eating these foods, we would put on weight plus become insulin resistant. So, those persons who are diabetic must not eat these foods.
 
Avoid full fat dairy products:
Saturated fats are present in foods like malai, full fat cheese, full cream milk etc. By eating these foods, there would be increased insulin resistance and higher cholesterol levels etc. This would make it difficult for us to manage diabetes. It is better to o opt for low fat or fat free dairy products.
